Biography

Mr O’Connor is a native of Galway and a graduate of NUIG Medical School in 2000. He was appointed to the Irish Higher Surgical Training programme in Ear, Nose & Throat Surgery in 2004 and received Specialist Training in ENT Surgery in teaching hospitals throughout Ireland. He completed his fellowship examination in ENT Surgery with The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland - FRCS (ORL-HNS) in 2008.

Prior to his appointment as a Consultant Ear Nose & Throat Surgeon at the Bon Secours Hospital, Galway in 2012 he spent two years in Perth, Australia where he completed clinical fellowships in Paediatric ENT at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children and in Head & Neck Cancer Surgery at Royal Perth Hospital. He has also completed a clinical fellowship in Ear Surgery in Plymouth, England.

He has published numerous peer-reviewed academic papers and has been awarded a number of academic prizes and distinctions. He was awarded a Masters in Surgery (MCh) for research he performed at NUIG. Mr O'Connor’s areas of clinical interest include Paediatric ENT, Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Hearing loss, Vertigo and disorders of the Voice and Larynx.

Outside of work his interests include running, travel and food. He lives in Headford, Co Galway with his wife Fiona and their five children.
